Conceived in January 2019, the Astrophysics and Space Physics Institute for Research Excellence (ASPIRE) assembles a very powerful and unique combination of astrophysics expertise at RIT aimed at utilizing modern observational, computational, instrumentation, and data analysis techniques to enable exciting new discoveries concerning the nature of the universe.
The emerging capabilities for simultaneous measurements through the different windows of electromagnetic, high-energy astroparticle, and gravitational radiation processes call for a vigorous pursuit of new synergies. Our vision with ASPIRE is to forge new synergistic collaborations, multi-wavelength and multi-messenger observations, and data analysis techniques to transcend the scientific inquiries made within a single window of observations.
ASPIRE aims to take advantage of the upcoming data revolution by using deep learning and artificial intelligence in order to address the deepest mysteries in contemporary astrophysics, from the origins of supermassive black holes to the question “are we alone?” In so doing, ASPIRE will both inspire and prepare the next generation of highly skilled creative thinkers in cutting edge data analysis, computational, and technological skills, which will have a wide range of applications both within and beyond astrophysics.
Our faculty have garnered international reputations for groundbreaking research across a broad realm that includes the exploding young field of gravitational wave detection and interpretation, astronomical instrumentation and its broader societal applications, and the origin and evolution of astrophysical systems ranging from extrasolar planets and binary stars to galaxies and supermassive black holes.
Diversity and Inclusion
ASPIRE is committed to creating a respectful and inclusive community environment that invites participation from everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, nationality, or religion.
Our community is based on mutual respect, tolerance, and encouragement, and we are working to help each other live up to these principles. We want our community to be more diverse: whoever you are, and whatever your background, we welcome you.
Additionally, we aim to always be respectful of our environment and strive to be environmentally friendly in all of our events.
If you have any concerns, please contact the ASPIRE director and co-director.
