Jesse's research primarily encompasses radio molecular line surveys and interferometric mapping of nearby planetary nebulae. His work has allowed him to identify how high-energy radiation (UV and X-rays) from the dying central stars drives the chemistry inside of these cold, molecule-rich environments. Current subjects of his focus are the planetaries: NGC 7027, NGC 6302 (the Butterfly Nebula), and NGC 7293 (the Helix Nebula).
